Flood warning issued

• Updated Jan 12, 2018 at 1:12 PM

The National Weather Service in Cleveland has issued a flood warning for Erie County that will be in effect until 9:15 a.m. Saturday.

At 9:10 a.m. today, the Erie Emergency Management reported an ice jam along the Huron River at Franklin Flats in Milan. The water was beginning to back up to U.S. 250. Rain was continuing to fall

causing the river to rise. Residents should prepare for flooding and avoid flooded areas.

Ice jams are unpredictable and can cause rapid rises and falls in river levels. As the river rises the jam could break up and move further downstream. Local officials are monitoring the situation and reporting conditions to the National Weather Service. More information will be shared as it becomes available.

Some locations that will experience flooding include northern Milan.

Area residents are encouraged to report flooding to a local law enforcement agency when they can do so safely.
