Seven from area earn OHSVCA District 6 first team

NORWALK — Seven area players earned a spot on the first team in their respective division on the annual Ohio Volleyball Coaches Association District 6 teams, it was announced on Sunday.

Below is a breakdown of area standouts in each division:


Wiers, Vogel first team

Senior standout hitters Lydia Wiers (Willard) and Payton Vogel (Bellevue) each earned a spot on the first team in Div. II.

Both players were also All-Ohioans this season as well. Wiers finished with 382 kills and 101 blocks in 23 matches this season, while Vogel had 375 kills in 24 matches.

Earning second team honors included Norwalk’s Carly Bilton and Olivia Ward, along with Bellevue’s Molly Bullion and Taylor Baxter, and Willard’s Cassidy Crawford.

Willard’s Jena Adams and Norwalk’s Linsey Koenig were third-team selections.

Earning honorable mention included Norwalk’s Delaney Thomas and Claire Kelly, and Willard’s Chloe Wiers.

Bellevue coach Karen Irons was Co-Coach of the Year with Oak Harbor’s Jacki Gezo. Bellevue won its first league championship since 2005 when it won the SBC Lake this season.


Western’s White is first team

In Div. III, Western Reserve senior libero Morgan White was a first team choice. She finished with 332 digs and 198 kills for the Roughriders (17-8).

Earning second team honors was Edison senior Hannah Vitaz. Voted to the third team included Western Reserve’s Hannah Burke and Avery Tubbs, and Edison’s Grace Houser.

Honorable mention included New London’s Brooklyn Hudson and Lili Bartow, and Edison’s Kira Appeman.


Four voted to first team

Four area Firelands Conference standouts were selected to the first team in Div. IV.

That included Monroeville senior libero Stacia Stieber, who was chosen as the District 6 Player of the Year. Stieber will take 608 digs for the season into Thursday’s state semifinal match vs. New Bremen in Fairborn.

Monroeville sophomore Kylee Brooks (304 kills) joined Stieber on the first team to represent the Eagles. St. Paul senior Kamryn Maxwell (326 kills/343 digs) and junior Megan Hammersmith (238 kills/217 digs) were also on the first team.

Second team selections included Monroeville’s Kelsie Palmer and Camryn Hedrick; St. Paul’s Lauren Chandler and Kennedy Stang; and South Central’s Taylor Sexton.

St. Paul’s Anna Lukaso, Monroeville’s Graisyn Yoder and South Central’s Lorin Walcher were each selected for the third team. Monroeville’s Adrian Barman was honorable mention.

Monroeville coach Kendra Snook, who reached 200 wins this season and guided the Eagles to district and regional championships was Co-Coach of the Year with Mohawk’s Eric Hoover.

All athletes will be recognized at 7 p.m. Nov. 14 at Norwalk High School for the annual District 6 All-Star match. Admission is $5 adults and $3 for students/senior citizens. Family admission for immediate family only is $10.
