Monroeville's Stieber breaks digs record

MONROEVILLE — Stacia Stieber entered the record books, and the Monroeville volleyball team enters Tuesday’s big match at St. Paul a perfect 3-0.

The Eagles swept Carey in non-conference action Saturday, 25-22, 25-16, 25-18.

Stieber, who had 23 digs in Saturday’s win, broke the Monroeville career digs record last week. Now at 1,423 career digs, the old mark of 1,380 belonged to former standout Breanna Kramer (2012-15)

In Saturday’s win, Graisyn Yoder led the Eagles (3-0) in serving, going 14 for 15 with four aces, and added 16 kills, while Maddie Elmlinger was 14 for 16 serving with an ace and eight digs.

Also for Monroeville, Camryn Hedrick was 62 for 64 setting with 44 assists and contributed nine digs, while Kylee Brooks had 15 kills and one block, Adrian Barman had six kills and one block, Lydia Landoll had five kills and one block, and Maura Brown had four kills and one block.

Mohawk 2, Edison 0

Old Fort 2, Edison 0

SYCAMORE — Edison dropped a pair of matches to the hosts, 25-22, 25-20 and Old Fort, 25-18, 26-24, Saturday in tri-match action.

Leading the Chargers were Lilli Schuster with nine kills and 17 digs, Hannah Vitaz with eight kills and six points, Grace Houser with 23 digs and five points and Natalie LAmbert with 36 assists and 14 digs.

Kira Appeman had six kills, 10 points and 14 digs, while Jessica Stoll added four kills and five points, Halina Krul had 10 digs and three points, Olivia Vitaz contributed four assists and two kills, Melissa Kuhl had four kills and Maddi Proy added three digs.

Plymouth 3, Mans. Christian 0

PLYMOUTH — The host Big Red improved to 2-2 with Saturday’s non-league sweep over visiting Mansfield Christian.

No further information was provided.

Plymouth is back in action on Tuesday at Crestview.


Norwalk 4, Columbian 1

NORWALK — Host Norwalk swept Tiffin Columbian in Sandusky Bay Conference Lake division action on Saturday at the Middle School.

In singles play, Megan Berry beat Katie Smith at No. 1 by injury default, while Gabby Horowitz topped Casey Knutson at No. 2 (6-2, 6-3) and Emma Trost defeated Anna Stephey at No. 3 (6-2, 6-0).

In doubles action, the duo of Sela and Mara Berry topped Linzi Boos and Erin Musil at No. 1 (6-0, 6-1), while Lauren Metcalf and Alexa Moore beat Morgan Amory and Whitney Johnston at No. 2 (6-2, 6-0).

The Truckers (6-1, 2-0) return to action Monday at Perkins in what is expected to be a key SBC Lake match.


Ontario 8, Norwalk 2

ONTARIO — The Warriors defeated Norwalk in non-conference action Saturday.

Tyler Clark recorded 12 saves for the Truckers in net. Offensively, Will Gehlhausen and Collin Mackall each scored a goal, while Garrison Smith added an assist.

The Truckers (0-3) return to action Monday at Sandusky in an SBC Lake match.
