The biggest match of the day came at first singles, as Megan Berry outlasted Jayla Medina by way of a 1-6, 7-6 (8), 6-3 win for the Truckers.
At second singles, it was a similar match, as Edison’s Emily Vogus rallied for a 4-6, 6-4, 6-2 win over Norwalk’s Gabby Horowitz.
"This was a very close match today between two neighboring communities,” Norwalk coach Chris Higgins said. “Megan and Jayla played a classic that saw both players battle to the end. Gabby and Emily were very evenly matched. Both players went on major runs during this match.”
At third singles, Emma Trost won for Norwalk in straight sets over Alli Vogus (6-2, 7-5).
Norwalk’s first doubles team of Mara Berry and Alexa Moore also won in three sets, outlasting Kaylee Ries and Torri Keyser (4-6, 6-4, 6-1). The No. 2 team of Lauren Metcalf and Erin Bleile closed things out with a win over Emily Moore and Lindsey Kowalski (6-1, 6-0).
“Emma, after a smooth first set, managed to capture a close second set,” Higgins said. “Mara and Alexa took a while to get going, but started rolling in the middle of the second set. Lauren and Erin were nearly flawless today in a quick victory."
Norwalk will host Edison, Bellevue and Willard among the teams at its annual doubles tournament, which begins at 9 a.m. on Saturday. They face Anthony Wayne at Bowling Green State University on Monday.
Willard 4, Clyde 1
WILLARD — The Crimson Flashes won for the second time this week with Wednesday’s home victory over visiting Clyde.
Addy Paxton got things going at first singles for Willard with a three-set win over Emma Strudthoff (7-5, 2-6, 10-2). Second singles saw Ella Schag top Klara Miller (6-0, 6-1), while Clyde’s lone win was at third singles where Natalie Cziesla beat Macey Compton (6-1, 6-1).
At first doubles, the team of Whitney Robinson and Kennedy Daub defeated Megan Barrett and Alyssa Laurer (7-6 (6), 6-3). The No. 2 doubles team of Natalie Van Zoest and Kalli Sowers beat Hali Hagemeyer and Averie Fritz (6-2, 6-2).
Perkins 173, Norwalk 180
OXFORD TWP. — The Truckers dropped a close match to the host Pirates on Wednesday in SBC Lake Division action at Woussickett Golf Course.
For Norwalk, Zach Craine was low score with a 44. He was closely followed by Justin Sommers (45), Gavin Koelsch (45), Carter Kluding (46), Kyle Smith (47) and Ian Minor (51).
Crestview 189, St. Paul 194
NORWALK — The Flyers were edged out by five strokes as the visiting Cougars picked up the Firelands Conference win at Eagle Creek Golf Course.
Jackson Cook paced St. Paul with a 46, while both Nathan Juby and Logan Amato fired 47s. Also for St. Paul, David Swope had a 54, followed by Luke Meyer (60) and Dylan Cook (65).
Oak Harbor 196, Norwalk 197
OAK HARBOR — The Truckers lost by a single stroke in Wednesday’s match against the host Rockets at the Oak Harbor Golf Club.
Hannah Dumbeck led Norwalk with a 45, with Noelle Jackson adding a 46 and Chloe Thomas a 48. Also scoring for Norwalk was Mylea Barber (58), Mya Binkley (67) and Mimi Serotko (67).
St. Paul 234, Crestview 265
NORWALK — The Flyers picked up an FC win over the visiting Cougars in a match played at Sycamore Hills golf course.
For St. Paul, Sara Scavuzzo had a 50, while being followed by Tori Pocos (58), Brooke Bleile (60) and Amelia Rospert (66).
