Monroeville's Tommas, Helmstetter are All-Ohio first team

A pair of Monroeville standouts were selected to the Ohio Fastpitch Coaches Association first team, it was announced on Tuesday.

Senior Ashlyn Tommas and junior Carley Helmstetter earned the first team honors for the Eagles, who went 24-4 this season with a Division IV sectional championship.

Tommas and Helmstetter were also recently named the Firelands Conference Pitcher and Players of the Year.

Tommas played in 26 games for the Eagles and batted .506 (44-of-87). She had 10 doubles, a triple, a home run and 31 RBIs while also scoring 27 runs.

In 134 1/3 innings in the circle this season (23 starts), Helmstetter was 20-2 with a 0.99 ERA. She allowed 19 earned runs on 77 hits with 228 strikeouts and 19 walks. Offensively, she hit .342 with four doubles, one home run and 24 RBIs.

Also from the area, Bellevue senior outfielder Sophia Pressler was also selected to the first team in Division II. The Outstanding Performer for the Sandusky Bay Conference Lake division this spring, Pressler led Bellevue (18-6) in most offensive categories as the Lady Red won the league title and reached a district championship game.

Through 21 games, Pressler batted .472 with six doubles, four home runs, 16 RBIs and 22 runs scored. She also stole 12 bases.
