He was born on July 21, 1932, in Erie, PA, to the late Charles and Zoe Ann (Wyland) Rapp. He resided in the Norwalk, New London, and Wellington areas since 1969.
David will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 59 years, Mary Lou, and their children, Steven (Becky), David, Marci and Tracey. He will also be fondly remembered by his grandchildren, Chloe, Luc, Marc, Isabella, and Aspen and great-granddaughter, Payton. David is also survived by his daughter, Bonnie Smith, and granddaughters, Kristi and Cyndi, his two sisters, Shirley Woodley and Dr. Doris Rapp (Hershal), as well as several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
David attended the University of Buffalo and was a proud United States Marine, serving in the 1st Marine Division during the Korean War from 1950-1953. He bravely fought in the decisive Battles of Inchon and Chosin Reservoir, receiving the Presidential Unit Citation for extraordinary heroism. David enjoyed a long career as a manufacturer’s representative for True Form Foundations of New York City, working directly with many popular department stores. In retirement, he earned his real estate license and worked with Russell Reality in Amherst, Ohio.
David enjoyed antique cars, raising and showing Arabian horses, playing golf and tennis, and restoring historic homes. David will be remembered as a great storyteller, with a wonderful sense of humor and twinkle in his eye, engaging all those around him with smiles and laughter. His greatest joy was his wife and family, grandchildren, and his beloved pet dog, Bella.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the Ohio Veterans Home in Sandusky, Ohio, and give a special thanks to the staff at the Memory Care Unit, 3 North, for their wonderful and committed care. Friends may call on Monday, December 17, 2018, from 12:00 p.m. until the time of funeral services at 1:00 p.m. held at the Giffin Chapel of the Ohio Veterans Home, located at 3416 Columbus Ave., Sandusky, Ohio. The Chaplain Paul Birmingham will officiate. Burial will be in the Ohio Veterans Home Cemetery. Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory is assisting the family with arrangements.
