He was born in Cleveland, Ohio to Earl and Elsie Belmont. Gordon was raised in Cleveland, married and moved to North Olmsted. After raising their children, he and his wife, Mary Lou moved to Vermilion. They then moved to Birmingham, Ohio where he lived out his life until he required nursing care.
Gordon and Mary Lou were married 64 years, until her passing in January 2017.
He was a member of the U.S. Army from September 1946 until January 1948 where he earned the Victory medal. Gordon became a carpenter and built several houses, including their North Olmsted and Vermilion homes, until he joined NASA, working thirty years until his retirement.
He was active in his church, assisting in its construction. Gordon enjoyed being with family, especially the grandchildren at Heidelberg beach. His hobbies included tending to his garden, making stained glass treasures, and various wood working projects. He also restored a Ford Model A.
Gordon is survived by his children Jeffrey (Chris) Belmont and Judy (Dale) Destro; grandchildren Aubrey (Andrew) Lash, Allyson (Izaac) Ferrari, and Andrew (Jasmine) Belmont; great grandchildren Elsie, Jonathan, Frank, and Peyton; brother-in-law Kenneth (Marilyn) Kessler; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and siblings Doris, Alice, Betty, and Raymond.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, December 8, 2018 at 10 AM at the Church of the Redeemer, 23500 Center Ridge Road, Westlake, OH 44145, immediately followed by his memorial service at 11 AM.
