Doyle Douglas Neel

NEW LONDON — Doyle Douglas Neel, 99, of New London, passed away on Thursday, October 4, 2018.

Doyle was born in Jeromesville, OH on June 29, 1919, son of the late Henry and Edith (Sanders) Neel. The family moved to New London in 1924. Doyle lived in New London all of his life. He was a 1937 graduate of New London High School.

Doyle served in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1946. He was assigned to a Military Police Battalion. From there he was assigned to the 78th Field Hospital in Germany, France and Belgium. In 1943 he married Jean Foreman of Wakeman, OH. They were married for 65 years until Jean’s passing in 2009.

In 1962 he was manager of the New London Senior Little League Team which played in the finals of the “World Series” in Williamsport, PA. He worked for Firelands Electric in New London for 33 years until his retirement in 1984.

He was a member of the New London United Methodist Church. Doyle served on the New London Reservoir Board for 17 years and was past commander of the New London American Legion and a member for over 50 years. He was a member of the Gibson Masonic Lodge for over 65 years.

Doyle is survived by sons, David (Trudy) Neel, Larry Neel and Mark (Kay) Neel; granddaughter, Abby and brother, Vaughn (Lois) Neel. In addition to his parents and wife, Doyle was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Pojana; brother, Graydon and sisters, Thelma, Orile, Mary and Betty.

A Masonic service will be held Monday at 6 pm. His family will greet friends from 6-8 pm Monday, October 8, 2018 at Eastman Funeral Home, 200 West Main Street, New London, OH and Tuesday from 10 am until the 11 am service on Tuesday. Burial will follow in Grove Street Cemetery, New London.
