WAKEMAN — Members and adult leaders with Wakeman Trail Life Troop 1877 recently served as volunteers at the Vietnam Veterans Moving Wall in Wellington.

The Wakeman Trail Life Troop also is holding a car cruise-in and fundraiser from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m. July 27. The event will be during the Wakeman Firefighters Homecoming Festival at Wakeman Congregational Church, 14 Abbott St., Wakeman.

“We are hoping that this will be an annual event,” troopmaster Kristopher Green said.

From 9 a.m. until noon will be a free school clothing giveaway for students in kindergarten through 12th grade. The car cruise-in, which will feature many makes and models of cars and trucks, will be at 10 a.m.

A hog roast/chicken barbecue starts at 11:30. Food and drinks will be served all day.

Prizes will be awarded to the winners in the home run derby and free-throw contest. Both events are at 1 p.m. and require a $5 donation. For a $20 donation, residents can compete in the corn hole tournament, also starting at 1 and with prizes for the winners.

A 50-50 drawing will be at 3 and all ages are welcome to the community kick ball game at 3:15. The outdoor community movie at dusk is a free event for all ages.

“In addition to the pulled pork, we are planning plenty of other great food. We have some great prizes lined up for the contests, so put this event on your calendar,” Green said.

“Trail Life Troop 1877 is going strong, consisting of roughly eight to 10 boys at this time and seven adult leaders with two more adults planning to get involved in the near future.”

Trail Life USA is a Christ-centered outdoor adventure and character development program for boys (starting at age 5).

“Parents love the commitment to a Christian worldview and moral consistency. Boys enjoy the fun and adventure. Trail Life USA partners with churches to grow godly young men. Boys connect with friends, dads, and mentors in a safe, encouraging, Christian environment,” Green said.
