United Fund discontinues 2-1-1 referral service support

The Norwalk Area United Fund, after much consideration, has discontinued support of the 2-1-1 referral service.

Started in 2014, the 2-1-1 call center in Cleveland began services to Huron County residents with the hope of streamlining access to services. For the past several years the call center handled fewer than 1,000 calls per year and local organizations including the United Fund saw no decrease in the number of calls for assistance into its organizations.

The United Fund decided that the benefit of 2-1-1 services was not cost effective and has chosen to use those funds to support other actives of the Huron County Assistance Network. These dollars will remain local and assist residents more directly, according to United Fund officials.
