A supervisor with the Huron County Department of Job and Family Services (JFS) was the featured speaker during the May 4 meeting of the Huron County’s Zeta chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma.

JFS supervisor Nikita McCann spoke about a program for fostering children who need to be removed from their families during emergency situations.

For the past few months, the Zeta chapter has been collecting items for “Foster Journey Bags” for girls or boys age newborn to 13 years.

In March, members collected shampoo, conditioner, lotion, toothbrushes, toothpaste, combs, brushes, baby wash, baby lotion, diaper cream, diapers, and wipes. In April, donations included pajamas (sizes 0 months to size 13), underwear (sizes 0 months to size 13), socks, hair ties, barrettes, blankets, sippy cups, and teethers. Items donated in May were story books, coloring books, crayons, small toys, stuffed animals, and backpacks/duffle bags.

Delta Kappa Gamma is a society comprised of key women educators, both active and retired.
