A motorcyclist without a helmet was killed in the early morning hours Sunday after he was ejected from his bike on U.S. 6.

At 12:20 a.m., Roger Cox, 56, of Berea, was driving his 2011 Harley Davidson motorcycle south on U.S. 6 at the Terra roundabout. As Cox came up to the roundabout however, he failed to negotiate the curve, according to the the Fremont post of the state Highway Patrol.

Cox’s motorcycle went off the left side of the road onto the raised brick median and then back off the median onto the roadway. He then struck the curb on the inside median of the roundabout and was ejected from the motorcycle. Cox and the motorcycle came to rest in the landscaped area inside the median, troopers said.

He sustained fatal injuries from the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene, troopers said.

Cox wasn’t wearing a helmet at the time of the crash and possible impairment is still under investigation.

Troopers were assisted at the scene by the Sandusky County Sheriff’s Department, Sandusky County Fire and EMS and Madison Motors.
