Three people, including a young child, were seriously hurt in a rollover crash Tuesday afternoon on the Ohio 4 exit from the Ohio Turnpike.

A 2004 Ford Explorer driven by William Plasman, 27, of Willard, lost control and went off the side of the exit ramp and overturned into a ditch, said troopers with the state Highway Patrol.

Plasman told troopers he swerved the vehicle to avoid hitting a small animal.

William Plasman suffered serious injuries and was taken by North Central EMS to Firelands Regional Medical Center. The front passenger, Cheyenne Plasman, 22, of Willard, also suffered serious injuries and was also taken to Firelands Regional Medical Center by North Central EMS.

A child who was seated in the rear of the car was also seriously hurt and taken to a Toledo hospital by medical helicopter, troopers said.

None of the injuries appeared to life-threatening, troopers said.

No further information about the victims was available.

Troopers charged William Plasman with failure to control a vehicle.

The Erie County Sheriff’s Office and Groton Township Fire assisted at the scene.
