CATAWBA ISLAND TOWNSHIP — A man was injured and flown to the hospital by LifeFlight following a one-vehicle crash Saturday night, the state Highway Patrol said.

Bradford W. Meade, 47, of Fremont, was taken to Toledo ProMedica Hospital by LifeFlight after sustaining incapacitating injuries in a crash that might have involved alcohol, troopers said. The crash took place around 7:51 p.m. at North West Catawba and East Cemetery roads in Ottawa County.

Meade was driving a 2017 Chevy Impala north on Northwest Catawba Road when he failed to safely negotiate a left hand curve, according to troopers. The vehicle traveled off the right side of the road, struck a guide wire and two trees. The vehicle then caught fire and but was extinguished by a passerby. Meade was entrapped in the vehicle and had to be extracted by mechanical means.

No further information was available about Meade’s condition.

Troopers said alcohol is believed to be a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation, and Meade was wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash.

The patrol was assisted at the scene by Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office, Catawba Township Fire/EMS, Catawba Police Department and LifeFlight.
