Man, woman injured in motorcycle crash

A man and woman were injured in what authorities are calling an alcohol-related motorcycle crash Saturday night in New Haven Township.

Bennie J. Craft, 44, of Shelby, was driving a 2006 Harley Davidson Motorcycle east on U.S. 224 near Bullhead Road at 11:29 p.m. Saturday when his motorcycle traveled off the right side of the roadway, struck the ditch and overturned, ejecting both Craft and his passenger, said troopers with the state Highway Patrol’s Norwalk post.

Craft sustained incapacitating injuries in the crash and was transported to Mercy Willard Hospital and later flown by a medical helicopter to Mercy St. Vincent Regional Medical Center in Toledo.

The passenger — Kathie M. Craft, 40, of Shelby — also sustained serious injuries. She was transported by Willard EMS to Mercy Willard Hospital for treatment. Her injuries appeared to be non-life-threatening, troopers said.

The motorcycle was removed from the scene by Jensen’s Towing.

Alcohol involvement appears to be a crash factor, troopers said. Neither the driver nor the passenger was wearing a helmet. No charges have been filed yet in the accident, which remains under investigation, troopers said.

Assisting agencies at the scene included Willard Fire and EMS, Willard Police Department and North Central Life Flight.
