Countians give $1,185 toward flood sufferers
Huron County went over the top by nearly $400 in the special Eastern States flood relief fund drive sponsored by the local Red Cross Chapter in response to the appeal of President Eisenhower announced in the Aug. 24 issue of the Reflector-Herald.
Chapter Treasurer Helen Lippert reported that the county’s quota, set by the national RC headquarters at $800, was made to date by voluntary donations totaling $1,185.45, with additional funds still being received.
“It has been most gratifying int he way the people of Huron County responded to this appeal without any special fanfare,” Mrs. Libber commented.
6 injured in crash near Willard limits
Six persons received multiple minor injuries at 1 a.m. this morning on Rt. 194, a half mile east of Willard, when cars driven by Jerry Newman, 16, Willard, and Larue Rowe, 40, North Fairfield, collided head on
All were taken to the Willard hospital with Rowe and his passenger, Greenville Williams, 22, admitted. The former suffered knee and head injuries while Williams received a neck injury.
Treated and released were Newman and three teenage passengers, Nedra Reed, 16; Thomas Jacobs, 16; and Larry Hamilton, 17, all of rural Willard, the Highway Patrol reported.
Dr. Patrick to be on television Monday evening
Dr. Robert Patrick, formerly of this city, will appear on the television program, “Medical Horizons,” which will be presented at 8:30 p.m. EST, on Channel 5.
Dr. Patrick, who is on the staff of the Mayo Clinic at Rochester, Minn., will appear with a group of doctors who developed the “heart-lung by-pass machine” which is used to perform surgery on the open heart.
Dr. Patrick is the son of Dr. and Mrs. Tracy M. Patrick of this city.
Ground to broken for Legion Home
Ground for the new memorial home of the Norwalk post of the American Legion at the western limits of the city will be broken next week with the building itself getting underway sometime in October.
Legionnaire Robert Price will move in with equipment and manpower to begin an extensive earth moving program preparatory to the installation of the building and also a large parking area.
