Parsons wins $700 on Canadian drag
Norwalk’s Jim Parsons and his High and Mighty Crew won $700 in the Street Eliminator division of a race this weekend at St. Thomas, Ontario, Canada.
Parsons drove his National Hot Rod Association record holder to a 9.72 second quarter mile to eliminate all other competition Sunday in the second annual International Drag Sweepstakes at the St. Thomas Dragway Ltd.
In the trial runs, Parsons qualified with 16 others with a speed of 144 miles an hour.
It was a make believe evening in Greece for Norwalk juniors and seniors

The junior high school gym was decorated with white columns, gold and white balloons, lace banners and fountain. Other photos showed Prom chairman Mike Maunus dancing with his date, Dede Sofios; Kathy Ensminger arriving on the arm of Mark Gettles; and obviously enjoying themselves at a floorside table, Terri Geoghan of Norwalk and Nick Klapp of Tiffin. After the dance the promgoers went to the Aqua Marina at Avon Lake.
First grade classmates Pet ‘N Pup royalty
Some 500 youngsters competed with pets, costumes and vehicles Saturday in Norwalk’s 24th annual Pet ‘N Pup day celebration.
Emerging as king and queen of the event were a pair of Maplehurst first graders who shared a parade entry with a South Seas theme.
Terri Smith was dressed in a hula skirt and her cousin, Bobby Summerlin, was obviously a beachcomber. They accompanied some tropical fish and a grass hut in the parade Saturday morning.
Norwalk fourth in fitness
COLUMBUS — In the annual Marine Corps Physical Fitnes Meet here Saturday, Norwalk finished fourth with Glenville, Datyon, Stebbins and Kettering Fairmont East leading the Truckers. There were 15 teams.
Students from Norwalk High School participating were: John Adams, Mike Rang, Dennis McCreary, Time Iehle, Will Robinson and Jeff Crumrine.
