Authorities are trying to determine the identity of a driver killed in a fiery crash in rural Huron County.

The accident happened either Sunday night or Monday morning on County Road 187 and Greenwich East Town Line Road, which is near the New London Reservoir, said troopers with the state Highway Patrol’s Norwalk post.

The driver lost control of the eastbound Ford F-150, which then traveled down an embankment off the south side of the road, troopers said. The truck became engulfed in flames, killing the unknown driver.

Due to the severity of the damage caused by the fire, a positive identification of the driver has not been made, nor could it be determined if the driver was a man or a woman, troopers said.

Troopers said the accident remains under investigation.

The body was taken to the Lucas County Coroner’s Office, where an autopsy was to be performed.

Anyone with any information about the crash is encouraged to call 419-668-3711.
