Western wins FC opener

The Western Reserve girls basketball team won its Firelands Conference opener on Friday night, using a strong first half to top Mapleton, 36-30, in Collins.

Western (2-2, 1-0) led 20-10 at halftime, which was enough to pick up the win and snap a two-game skid despite being outscored 20-16 in the second half.

For Western, McKenna Woodruff finished with a team-high 12 points, followed by Ellie Blankenship with nine and Avery Tubbs with eight.

The Roughriders entertain Plymouth on Saturday in another FC matchup.

Willard 67, Port Clinton 35

PORT CLINTON — The Crimson Flashes blasted the Redskins by a 21-3 scoring advantage in the third quarter of Friday’s 32-point win in the SBC Bay Division opener for both teams.

Willard (4-0, 1-0) was led by Myles Pinkston with 18 points, while Cooper Parrott followed with 17. Micah Dawson added nien points and Trey Paxton scored eight for the Flashes, who are off for the next 15 days until a non-league game at Norwalk on Dec. 21.

Plymouth 46, Crestview 39

PLYMOUTH — The Big Red are off to a 3-0 start following Friday’s home win over the visiting Cougars in the FC opener.

Walker Elliott led Plymouth (3-0, 1-0) with 15 points, five assists, four rebounds and three steals. Josh Beebe added eight points and 10 rebounds, and Zeth Goth also scored eight points and Brody Brown added six.

Plymouth is at Western Reserve next Friday.
