Blair's basket lifts Trojans

BELLVILLE — South Central senior standout Simon Blair hit a jumper with 2.6 seconds left in overtime to lift the Trojans to a 55-53 win over host Clear Fork on Tuesday in non-league play. 

Blair finished with a season-high 31 points for the Trojans (3-0), and has scored 55 points over his last two games. He also added four assists on his 12-of-22 shooting night.

David Lamoreaux added 13 points and nine rebounds for South Central, which has its Firelands Conference opener vs. New London on Friday.

PLYMOUTH — The Big Red improved to 2-0 on the young season behind a big game from senior guard Walker Elliott on Tuesday.

Elliott finished with 25 points on 10-of-13 shooting, and also added six rebounds and four assists. Brody Brown was 7-of-9 from the floor and scored 18 points, while Zeth Goth added 12 points.

Plymouth opens Firelands Conference play on Friday.

Edison 45, Vermilion 39

MILAN — The Chargers rallied from a 24-17 halftime deficit with a 16-6 scoring advantage in the third quarter of Tuesday’s win over Vermilion.

The Chargers improved to 3-0 with the victory, with Aliyah Caporini leading the way with 21 points. Kennedy Keefer added eight and Jayla Medina scored seven.

JUNIOR HIGH

St. Paul seventh-grade tops Monroeville

NORWALK — The St. Paul boys seventh-grade basketball team won its season opener on Saturday with a 52-20 win over Monroeville at the Monroe St. Gym.

Nolan McCall led the Flyers with 13 points and Jared Hipp had 10, while Garrett Cook added eight rebounds. Evan Benfer led Monroeville with nine points.

 

Norwalk eighth-grade girls fall

NORWALK — The Norwalk eighth-grade girls were edged, 32-31, by visiting Edison on Tuesday in the season opener at the Middle School.

The truckers were led in scoring by Chloe Klausing with 15 points. Hailey Rinner had eight points, while Sophia Velasquez added six and Haley Smith scored two.

Norwalk is back in action on Thursday at Port Clinton.
