Western's Wyers, St. Paul's Smith All-Ohio third team

COLUMBUS — Another week, another postseason honor for Western Reserve standout Cora Wyers.

The senior center for the Roughriders was selected to the Ohio Prep Sportswriters Association All-Ohio third team, it was announced on Tuesday afternoon by the Ohio High School Athletic Association.

Wyers (6-feet) averaged 16.1 points, 8.7 rebounds and 3.3 blocks per game for the Roughriders, who finished 18-5 overall — and a perfect 14-0 in the Firelands Conference.

Wyers shot 47 percent from the field and 71 percent from the free-throw line this season in also helping the ‘Riders to a Division III sectional title.

She leaves the program as a key member of three consecutive FC title teams and the 2017-18 regional runners-up team. Wyers is also the all-time leading scorer at Western, as well as the record holder for blocks in a game, season and career.

In Div. IV, St. Paul sophomore Danielle Smith was also voted to the third team. 

The 5-7 sophomore guard averaged 14.7 points, 4.7 rebounds and 3.7 steals per game for St. Paul (17-7, 10-4) this season. The Flyers finished third in the FC behind Western Reserve and Crestview (17-5, 12-2) this season and won a Div. IV sectional championship.
