COLUMBUS — The Norwalk boys basketball team maintained its state ranking in the seventh and final Associated Press poll for Division II ahead of Friday’s regular season finale.

The Truckers, who went 2-1 last week, fell from 11th to No. 14 in this week’s final edition. Norwalk lost to Oregon Cardinal Stritch on Feb. 12, 57-40, which snapped a 14-game winning streak. The Cardinals are ranked No. 11 in the Div. III poll.

Norwalk (18-3) won its biggest game of the week in dominant fashion last Friday. The Truckers traveled to Sandusky and held the Blue Streaks 32 points below their season scoring average in a 54-38 win, which clinched at least a share of the Sandusky Bay Conference Lake Division championship.

It marks the first league title in five seasons for Norwalk, and the eighth overall in program history dating back to its time in the Northern Ohio League (1944-2017) and the SBC (2018-present).

Norwalk (8-1 Lake) can win the SBC Lake title outright on Friday at Bellevue (6-14, 2-7). The Truckers were also voted the No. 1 seed of the Div. II Mansfield Madison district and opens sectional tournament play next Tuesday at 6:15 p.m. at Willard High School vs. Tiffin Columbian (4-16).

The state ranking is also the fourth time in program history that Norwalk appeared in the final poll since its inception in 1950. The Truckers finished No. 2 in the Div. II poll in 2013-14, and were also 11th in 2011-12 and second again in 2012-13 — both of those coming in Div. I.
