St. Paul advances to sectional title game

NORWALK — The St. Paul baseball team opened Division IV sectional tournament play with a 3-1 win over Danbury on Tuesday at Norwalk Area Contractors Park.

With the win, St. Paul — which has won 10 straight games — improved to 17-7 overall. The Flyers advance to Thursday’s sectional title game at Fremont St. Joseph Central Catholic (14-9).

In Tuesday’s win, the Flyers got five strong innings from freshman Tyler Perkins, then the combination of Scotty Adelman and Gavin Starcher finished it off.

Perkins allowed one run on three hits with six strikeouts and one walk. Adelman went the next 1 1/3 scoreless and hitless innings with two strikeouts. Starcher struck out both batters he faced in the seventh.

Offensively for St. Paul, Adelman had the lone hit. Spencer Myers drew a bases loaded walk in the first inning for a 1-0 lead.

In the third, an error and a walk put two runners on. Starcher thens cored on an error, then on an errant pickoff attempt, Noah Good also scored for a 3-1 lead and ultimately the final runs of the game.

Margaretta 11, Monroeville 1

CASTALIA — The Eagles lost in Tuesday’s Div. IV sectional semifinal to the host Polar Bears on Tuesday at Lions Park.

Monroeville (1-21) was held to two hits in the loss — both by Mason Hiser, which included a double.

New London 7, Plymouth 5

PLYMOUTH — The Wildcats jumped out to a 5-1 lead after three innings and made it stand in Tuesday’s Firelands Conference win over the Big Red.

For New London (10-8, 8-6), Colin Cole was 3 for 4 with an RBI, while Matt Jarvis was 2 for 4 with two RBIs. Karson Howell and Chase Keathley each added two hits and an RBI.

For Plymouth (11-8, 8-5), Walker Elliot was 3 for 4 with a triple and three RBIs.

PORT CLINTON — The Crimson Flashes fell to 1-20 with Tuesday’s SBC Bay Division loss to the Redskins.

Ashton Ames and Shane Durbin had the lone two hits for Willard in the loss.

PORT CLINTON — The Crimson Flashes moved above .500 with Tuesday’s SBC Bay Division road win over the Redskins.

For Willard (12-11), Becca Slone was 5 for 5 with a double and four RBIs. Haylie Hamons was 2 for 3 with a double and four RBIs, while Jena Adams was 3 for 5 with a double and three RBIs. Cathern Hamons added three hits and two RBIs, including a double.

In the circle, Morgan Hamons went all seven innings. She allowed four earned runs on six hits with three strikeouts and no walks.

Bellevue 6, Ontario 0

MILAN — Bellevue pitcher Hannah Hill allowed only two singles and was supported by a standout defense as the Lady Red knocked off top-seeded Ontario 6-0 on Tuesday in a Div. II district semifinal.

Freshman designated hitter Kearston Lunsford went 3 for 4 with two runs batted in and scored two runs. Her RBI triple in the top of the fourth was part of a three-run inning that gave the Lady Red (18-4) a commanding five-run cushion.

Junior catcher Raquelle Seamon followed the triple with an RBI double. She went 2 for 4 with two runs batted in.

Bellevue faces Vermilion in Thursday’s 5 p.m. title game.
