Willard baseball gets first SBC win

PORT CLINTON — Visiting Willard got a complete-game effort from Alec Gardner and plated a run in the top of the seventh in Monday’s 4-3 Sandusky Bay Conference Bay division win over the host Redskins.

Narcicio Resendez was 1 for 4 with two RBIs to pace the Crimson Flashes (2-7, 1-4). He drove in the game-winning run in the top of the seventh inning with a sacrifice fly, scoring Austin Adelman.

Bryce Bailey had a hit and drove a run, and Spencer Parrott and Adelman each singled.

Alec Gardner pitched all seven innings for Willard. He allowed three earned runs on four hits. He struck out six and walked four on 94 pitches (57 strikes).


Plymouth 13, W. Reserve 6

COLLINS — The Big Red scored six runs in the fifth and sixth innings to pull away in Monday’s Firelands Conference win.

Offensively for Plymouth (6-8, 4-3), Hamann was 3 for 4 with three RBIs. Marcus Adams was 4 for 5 with a double and an RBI, while Jarrett Miller was 3 for 5 with three runs scored. Avery Horne and Payton Young each drove in two runs.

Seth Bailey went the distance for the Big Red, throwing 122 pitches. He allowed four earned runs on 12 hits with seven strikeouts and two walks.

For Western Reserve (5-11, 0-7), Matt Perkins was 3 for 4 with a double and an RBI. Devin Good was 3 for 4 and scored a run, while Tyler Priddy was 2 for 4 with two RBIs, and Tate Drennan also had two hits.


Vermilion 4, Edison 3 (9 innings)

VERMILION — The Chargers scored three runs in the sixth inning to force extra innings, but the Sailors got a walk-off base hit in the bottom of the ninth in Monday’s SBC Bay win.

For Edison (7-4, 6-2), Caden Cooper started and struck out 12 batters in the no-decision. Caleb Bissell took the loss for the Chargers.

Jacob Kessler had a hit and two RBIs, while Bissell, Bryce Roberts, Richard Crooks, and Jadon Hanson had hits for Edison.



Clyde 2, Norwalk 0

CLYDE — Visiting Norwalk was blanked in Monday’s SBC Lake division game against the host Fliers.

Sydney Hughes and Leah Malson each had two hits to pace the Truckers offensively. Karissa Conrad allowed two runs on six hits with one strikeout and one walk in seven innings in the circle.


Willard 10, Port Clinton 2

PORT CLINTON — The Crimson Flashes scored six runs over the first two innings to improve to 6-3 overall (3-2 Bay).

Kelli Sowers was 4 for 4 with an RBI and a run scored, and Jena Adams was 3 for 4 with two RBIs and a run scored. Made Secor added two hits, two runs and an RBI, while Elli White was 3 for 4 with a double, two RBIs and a run scored.

In the circle, Morgan Hamons went all seven innings. She allowed two earned runs on nine hits with three strikeouts and a walk.


Plymouth 22, W. Reserve 2 (5 inn.)

COLLINS — The Big Red hit seven doubles and won for the xxth time in their last xx games with a run-rule victory over the Roughriders.

For Plymouth (7-7, 5-2), Olivia Fidler, Kelsey Blankenship and Morgan Hass each drove in three runs. Fidler had a double, Blankenship had two hits that included a double, and Hass had two hits.

Shilo Plank was 3 for 5 with two RBIs and three runs scored, and also had a double. Emily Akers also had three hits that included a double and an RBI. Maycie Creveling, Morgan Chaffins and Tristen Wiley also each had two hits.

Grace Elkin had an RBI for Western (0-13, 0-7), which also got a hit from Izabelle Good.


Edison 8, Vermilion 2

VERMILION — The Chargers scored four runs in the fourth inning to pull away from the host Sailors in Monday’s SBC Bay division game.

Lindsey Fortuna doubled, drove in two runs, walked twice and was the winning pitcher on the mound for Edison (5-8, 3-4). She allowed two earned runs on six hits with five strikeouts and two walks.

Also for Edison, Morgan Scott had three hits and Grace Houser had two hits that included a triple with an RBI. Alana Fidler singled and drove in two runs, while Hannah Vitaz and Leah Krul each had a hit and an RBI.


Bellevue 14, Perkins 3 (5 inn.)

BELLEVUE — The Lady Red (11-2) remained unbeaten in SBC Lake division play with Monday’s run-rule win over visiting Perkins.

Sophia Pressler was 3 for 4 with two home runs, three RBIs and three runs scored to pace Bellevue (7-0 Lake). Mayce Buckner was 2 for 2 with a double, two RBIs and two runs scored, while Skyler Reed was 2 for 3 with a home run and three RBIs.



Clyde 3, Norwalk 2

CLYDE — The Fliers maintained their unbeaten record atop the SBC Lake division with another tight win over visiting Norwalk on Monday.

Clyde is 9-2 overall (8-0 Lake), while the Truckers fell to 8-2 overall (5-3 Lake). Bellevue also has one league loss.

At first singles, Clyde’s Lukas Cziesla outlasted Norwalk’s Ausitn Brown (6-3, 3-6, 6-4). Daniel Stevens then beat Ben Traczek at second singles (6-1, 6-1) to give the Fliers a 2-0 lead.

Norwalk’s Jack Mei then won a lengthy match for the Truckers at No. 3 singles, beating Alex Kauble (1-6, 7-6 (3), 7-6 (4).

Clyde then clinched the match at first doubles, as Noah Prunty and Jacob Strudthoff beat Wyatt Brown and Andrew Riley, 6-2,7-6(2). Norwalk’s Eric Hull and Jordan Cotterill then got the win at No. 2 doubles over Logan Nicely and David Hoehnstein (6-1, 7-5).

Port Clinton 5, Willard 0

PORT CLINTON — The Crimson Flashes were swept in Monday’s SBC Bay division match against the host Redskins.

Kolin McKelvey fell at first singles (6-1, 6-2), and Graham Wiers lost at second singles (6-0, 6—). Zack Diel fell at third singles (6-0, 6-0).

The doubles team of Brandon Bye and Josh Haynes fell (6-0, 6-1), and the No. 2 tandem of Eli Jaramillo and Rojelio Lopez lost (6-0, 6-1).

Bellevue 5, Perkins 0

BELLEVUE — The Redmen improved to 10-2 overall (6-1 SBC Lake) with Monday’s sweep of the Pirates.

Logan Miller won at first singles (6-2, 6-4), while both Nate Fox and Jordan Schaefer (6-0, 6-0) swept their opponents at second and third singles.

In doubles action, the No. 1 team of Justin Baxter and Richie Stombaugh and the No. 2 team of Gunnar Lilly and Zach Fischer won by identical scores (6-1, 6-0).
