CENTERVILLE — Norwalk natives George and Betty Schlotterer, of Centerville, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.

Mr. Schlotterer married the former Betty Hickey on Oct. 19, 1968, at St. Paul Catholic Church, Norwalk. The Rev. William Bodart officiated the ceremony, and a reception was held at the Eagle’s Club in Norwalk.

They are the parents of Tim, of Dublin; Amy, of Fort Wayne, Ind.; and Mary Beth, of Cincinnati. They have 10 grandchildren.

Mr. Schlotterer retired as a merchandising manager for Super Valu in Xenia. Mrs. Schlotterer is a registered nurse, retired as a case manager.

The secret of their long marriage has been keeping God as the center, they said. Enjoyable experiences of the couple have been “witnessing our three children growing up and helping to nuture their roots of faith. They found wonderful spouses and continued their faith journey. The births of our 10 grandchildren brought joy beyond measure. Now we can experience the wonderful world of retirement, traveling on vacation and cheering at the grandchildren’s activities.”

To celebrate, a gathering of children and grandchildren was held at Fleming’s Restaurant in Beavercreek, as well as a vacation to Branson, Mo.
